GIS Technical Associate, Project Development
THE ROLE
Climate Impact Partners, a leading provider of high-quality carbon credit programmes, is looking for a Geographic Information System Technical Associate to join our Carbon Project Delivery team. The role is focused on supporting the delivery of projects being implemented under internationally recognised voluntary carbon standards, and carbon technical due diligence of new development projects through the use of geographic information system (GIS) / Earth Observation (EO) analysis. The role also provides support to our Technical Due Diligence Team, for analysis of projects from which we are acquiring issued credits. Project Delivery is a core part of our growth strategy, and this role is at the heart of delivering the best projects globally together with our project implementation partners.
You will be part of a high calibre, international Carbon Project Delivery team and will work closely with experienced Project, Technical and Commercial Managers, supporting the development and implementation of project opportunities. In pursuit of the highest integrity projects that will be designed and operated to give certainty around quality and delivery, we continue to evolve and strengthen our technical and operational due diligence, project design and delivery processes; you will support the ongoing streamlining of those processes. Critical to the role and the team will be to bring the department priorities together.
You will be optimising and delivering Climate Impact Partners’ quality project portfolio, building on our award-winning reputation as a voluntary carbon project developer. RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Development and Project Delivery
- Support project operations with geospatial data analytics for project implementation, forward planning and milestone checking for meeting project contract deliverables
- Strengthen our GIS capability to help streamline Project Development due diligence and project design, and incorporate best practice remote sensing into long-term project monitoring;
- Support the due diligence for the Global Supply Chain team on projects already issuing credits, with a strong emphasis on GIS analysis;
- Developing carbon emissions baselines and project scenarios, participating in the drafting or reviewing project certification documents like Project Design Documents and Monitoring Reports;
- Improving the design of consistent reporting, templates, data collection and management, and codifying our protocols for repeatability and scaling, identifying the most appropriate GIS analytics tools for the team;
- Keep abreast of best practice in digital and remote monitoring approaches, sharing learning with the team and contributing to our strategy in this field; for the right candidate there is the opportunity to take a leadership role in this programme.
Pipeline Management & Wider Team Support
- Supporting the sales cycle of projects, developing client-facing documentation for regular reporting;
- Produce monthly pipeline reporting for the Board;
CAPABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated experience in Carbon Project Management and /or Development or relevant roles, with a focus on nature-based solutions;
- Strong GIS / Earth Observation experience relating to biomass assessments, land use and climate impacts;
- Proficiency in programming languages (R, Python, JavaScript) for geospatial applications and Google Earth Engine is preferred but not essential;
- Ideally has 2+ years’ work experience;
- A degree or comparative experience in a relevant field such as GIS, or forestry, ecology, biological conservation or environmental management is preferable but not essential;
- Knowledgeable about key elements of the carbon development process such as baselining, field data collection and analysis, calculation of carbon benefits, forest and biomass inventories;
- Experience in preparing and/or reviewing Project Design Documents and monitoring reports for VCS/CCB, Gold Standard, and potentially other recognised standards, through to validation, monitoring and verification is preferred but not essential;
- Appreciation of the on-the-ground challenges and realities of project and carbon delivery, and a strong curiosity on what can be measured geospatially;
- A strong network in GIS/Earth Observation networks desirable; able to engage other technical specialists and manage specialist input as needed.

- Is comfortable with making pragmatic recommendations with the best available – and often imperfect information, working collaboratively to form views;
- Willing to travel internationally to project sites a few times a year.
