Carbon Projects Technical Manager, Health & Livelihoods
THE ROLE
Climate Impact Partners is a leading provider of high-quality climate solutions, dedicated to ensuring a thriving future for all life on earth. We are currently seeking an experienced H&L Technical Manager to join our Health & Livelihoods Technical team. In this role, you will oversee the technical requirement and delivery of global Health & Livelihoods projects which are operational under international carbon standards covering the VCM and Art.6. You will manage due diligence, project implementation, and carbon asset development for both exclusive and non-exclusive projects, working closely with internal teams and local project partners.
This position involves collaboration with the Head of H&L Technical and collaborate with the Head of Technical Due Diligence, Regional Director of Africa, and regional Sourcing Managers. Your role will be pivotal in supporting the identification, evaluation, and ongoing execution of Health & Livelihoods opportunities. Additionally, you will lead technical and operational due diligence of projects (including the selection and management of external specialist input, as needed) and, where required, lead the Carbon Asset Development from undertaking feasibility studies, to overseeing the validation, verification, and ultimately, the issuance of high-integrity carbon credits with credible international partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Management of H&L Projects:
- Provide ongoing oversight of the CAD portfolio, ensuring project performance, delivery, and timely reporting.
- Ensure quality and timely delivery of projects to meet required commercial obligations.
- Support the development and implementation of project management tools and systems.
- Work with project managers during feasibility studies and project assessments, providing technical support, guidance and feedback as necessary.
- Provide weekly project updates on key milestones, risks, and dependencies.
Technical Representation and Partner Engagement:
- Work closely with project partners to ensure project implementation aligns with CAD standards, identifying risks to future deliveries.
- Monitor and evaluate carbon project implementation to meet expected outcomes.
- Stay informed of changes in voluntary carbon standards and the Article 6 context of the work you are performing, sharing relevant updates with colleagues.
- Report on project success criteria, metrics, and management activities.
- Deliver progress reports and proposals to various audiences.
- Continue to enhance skills and expertise in emerging technologies, methods, and best practices.
- Represent Climate Impact Partners at events, building connections with technical experts in the field.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical advisors of host country governments
Delivery of CAD Services Under Internationally Recognized Carbon Standards:
- Lead CAD work for assigned projects, managing validation, verification, and issuance in line with timing and volume targets.
- Develop a commercial understanding of the CAD services the team is delivering, focusing on timely, budget-aligned delivery, and proactively identifying future commercial opportunities with the implementing partner and identifying and proposing and risk mitigations.
- Contract and manage relationships with third-party auditors and VCM standards, ensuring efficient and high-quality outcomes to uphold our market reputation.
- Maintain and update a list of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) for H&L projects.
- Work with management to review and refine project budgets and timelines.
- Oversee multiple projects, ensuring each aligns with strategic objectives and organisational priorities.
- Conduct CAD work with an appreciation for the emerging NDC and carbon/Article 6 NDC policy environment of the host countries and its potential impact on the project
Due Diligence Support for the Global Supply Chain Team:
- Support due diligence processes for potential emission reduction contracts, ensuring technical rigour and thorough evaluation.
- Contribute to Stage 3 due diligence for H&L projects, reviewing technical documents submitted by partners.
- Support in enhancing the overall quality of the due diligence process through tools and process improvement.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Proven experience in Carbon Asset Development, project management, and/or technical management in climate or environmental sectors, preferably with exposure to Health & Livelihoods projects.
- Enhanced Excel & Data management skills.
- Strong organizational skills with a track record of successfully managing multiple projects and balancing competing priorities.
- Ability to analyse technical documents and project data to support decision-making and ensure project success.
- In-depth understanding of international voluntary carbon standards and CAD processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for various stakeholders.
- Solution-oriented, with a proactive approach to overcoming challenges and achieving project goals.
- Self-driven individual, with ability to initiate and drive constructive discussions and initiatives aimed at supporting H&L portfolio delivery.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt to evolving project needs and industry trends.
- Excellent written and oral command of English.
- National, or holder of a valid required work visa in the host country.
